Project description Content as a Service (CaaS) is a strategic central capability that enables Sanoma Learning to efficiently scale and innovate its digital offerings. It provides a single, enterprise-grade service to ingest, enrich, and deliver all learning content and educational metadata from both print and digital sources for use in digital customer-facing products and method creation. Role Responsibilities Sanoma Learning is looking for an AI Engineer to join our growing Content as a Service (CaaS) team. In this role, you will work on AI-enabled capabilities that support the full lifecycle of editorial content from ingestion and transformation to enrichment and distribution across multiple learning products and platforms. As part of a cross-functional team, you will design, implement, and optimize AI-powered components and pipelines that help scale how editorial content is processed and served. This includes applying GenAI, LLMs, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and automation techniques to improve content understanding, metadata enrichment, classification, structuring, and delivery. You will work closely with engineers, product managers, architects, and editorial content experts to ensure content services are reliable, scalable, and valuable for downstream product teams. This is a hands-on role for a technically strong and product-minded professional eager to apply AI in meaningful ways to solve real content and publishing challenges in education. Key Responsibilities Develop and maintain AI-powered components and services that support editorial content ingestion, transformation, enrichment, and distribution. Build solutions that improve how content is processed and structured, including metadata generation, tagging, classification, summarization, entity extraction, semantic enrichment, and content transformation. Apply GenAI techniques such as large language models (LLMs), RAG, prompt engineering, and retrieval-based approaches in content-centric workflows and services. Collaborate with engineering, editorial, and product teams to integrate AI capabilities into the Content as a Service platform and ensure they support multiple downstream use cases and products. Design robust and scalable pipelines for handling large volumes of editorial content across different formats, structures, and source systems. Ensure that AI services are production-ready, reliable, scalable, and cost-efficient, using strong engineering practices, prompt optimization, evaluation, caching, and monitoring. Contribute to shared tools, reusable pipelines, and AI evaluation frameworks that help Sanoma Learning scale its AI maturity in content operations. Work in alignment with MLOps standards for versioning, deployment, testing, and monitoring. Ensure compliance with privacy and safety standards, including GDPR and responsible AI guidelines. Continuously stay updated on AI tools, GenAI methods, and content technology trends, bringing innovation into the Content as a Service domain where relevant. Document solutions and participate in internal knowledge sharing across the data, AI, content, and product communities. Must-have Requirements Education Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, AI, Data Science, Engineering, or a related technical field. Experience 35 years of hands-on experience in AI engineering, machine learning, applied NLP, or related software engineering roles. Practical experience applying AI or GenAI in production environments, ideally in content-heavy, publishing, document, or knowledge-rich domains. Experience building pipelines or services for content ingestion, parsing, transformation, enrichment, or delivery. Experience working with LLMs, prompt design, structured extraction, retrieval-based systems, and evaluation methodologies. Experience in cloud-native environments (e.g. AWS, GCP, Azure), with tools like Docker, Kubernetes, Airflow, or Prefect. Understanding of data governance, privacy, and AI compliance requirements such as GDPR. Prior experience in EdTech, publishing, media, or digital content platforms is beneficial but not required. Skills Strong Python engineering skills and experience building production-grade AI or data-processing services. Solid understanding of transformer-based models, prompt engineering techniques, and applied NLP approaches relevant to content transformation and enrichment. Familiarity with document and content processing pipelines, metadata modeling, and workflows involving structured and unstructured content. Experience with AI tooling and orchestration frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, or OpenAI/Anthropic APIs. Ability to design and implement workflows for parsing, chunking, classification, extraction, enrichment, and delivery of content. Working knowledge of MLOps, version control, testing, deployment, and monitoring practices. Strong analytical thinking and experimentation mindset. Comfortable working in agile, cross-functional environments, with good written and verbal communication skills. Curious, adaptable, and eager to learn and implement new technologies in a fast-evolving space. Personal Attributes Data-driven decision-making approach.
